Teaching

Angus provides instruction for both the Great Highland Bagpipes and the Scottish Smallpipes.

With 19 years of experience playing the bagpipes and great success in performance and competition, I am able to provide regular private lessons as well as group lessons to students interested in learning the Great Highland Bagpipe. For private instruction, my current rates are $40 per hour, and $30 per half hour. Members of the Bloomington Pipers’ Society are eligible for instruction discounts.

Students may determine the frequency of lessons, but at least every other week is highly recommended. If you are considering taking up the bagpipes, please contact me and I can provide guidance in helping you start out before you begin lessons.

I also offer the option of group classes, workshops, and some band instruction services. Please contact me for rates and availability for these services.

Well-rounded Teaching

My students are provided with a diverse array of opportunity to develop their craft as pipers. Students are expected to compete in solo competitions, play with a pipe band, as well as participate in an annual student recital locally in Bloomington, Indiana. My goal for each of my students is to bring them to a point where they can tackle any of the traditional tune types, teach beginners the basics of the instrument, and be capable of taking their skills into any performance environment they choose. Under my tutelage, the traditional and the contemporary are brought together to set up every student for success in their piping goals.
