Chicago Highland Games Report

The Chicago Highland Games has become one of the largest piping and drumming competitions on the continent within the past few years, attracting top level pipe bands and soloists from California to New York. This year, nearly all of the solo events took place on Friday, with the bands all competing on Saturday. A total of 46 band performances took place on Saturday, and a mind-bending 293 soloists performances on Friday, with another 103 solo performances on Saturday morning Рwith nearly 400 total across the two days. The weather was humid and in the upper 80s for much of Saturday.

Fountain Trust Pipe Band performed well in the MSR, though we still are working our way into the prize list. Our Medley Рthe first time performing it in contest Рwas not as strong. Our drum corps took 4th in the MSR, while the band overall came in last place in Grade 3. Undeterred Рwe are looking forward to the Ohio Games this weekend.

A major thunderstorm tore through the games just as the Grade 2 medleys were getting underway – interrupting Midlothian’s medley run just as they were going up to the line. The contest picked up again at 6:00PM, and the final five bands performed. Despite the inclement weather and the resulting delay, the contest was run well, and on time, with a very large number of bands participating.
